Get In. Get Happy. - Volkswagen Game Day 2013 TV CommercialAt the end of January, just over a month ago, Volkswagen released their game day TV commercial for the 2013 Super Bowl. The advertisement features a man from Minnesota speaking in a Jamaican accent throughout the advert because of how happy he is from owning a Volkswagen. His cheery vibe is even so inviting, that at the end of the advert, one of his colleagues and his boss are both seen sharing a ride with the first guy, happy and cheery, and with of course a Jamaican accent.

A few of the more hilarious of lines that can be heard are as follows: (Though I won’t attempt to spell the words in the way they are said).

“Don’t fret me brother, the sticky bun come soon.”

“Julia, turn the frown, the other way around”

“You know what this room needs? A smile.”

“Don’t be no cloud on a sunny day.”

All of course in a Jamaican accent. The full advert, with all its hilarity can be watched below:

Reviewing Get In. Get. Happy:
Cinematography:
5/5

The camera work in this advert is very well done. It’s smooth and cuts between the seemingly normal people and our Jamaican accented man. It is easy to watch and you really find the comedic effect of the advert superb with the actions of the man being filmed perfectly. Respect boss man. 5/5

Message: 4/5

The message that owning and driving a Volkswagen will make you happy is clearly portrayed and delivered throughout the advert. However the subtle message that you will end up speaking with a Jamaican accent, even if it is used for comedic effect, does distract a bit from the overall message. For that I give it a 4/5.

Pace: 5/5

The pacing of the advert is very good and it delivers the message that it aims to get across without making the viewers bored. The comedic effect of the advert also serves to make the advert feel quick to watch because you end up enjoying watching it. 5/5

Sound: 5/5

The sound of the advert is very well done. The Jamaican accent is maintained throughout the advert without any inconsistencies and is also easily understandable. The background music also doesn’t distract from the funny lines the actor speaks to his fellow colleagues. 5/5

Overall: 4.75/5

Success!
