Subaru Sumo

Now this is what we want to see! Naught sexy sumo wrestlers washing a dirty 2009 Subaru Forester. In the ad they released in 2009, Subaru hoped to appeal to its target demographic of the Forester by running a gag advert, taking the classic “hot chicks washing a car in skimpy clothes” theme and replacing it with sumo wrestlers. There is no way to resist watching in a horrified fascination and not chuckle at least a little bit.

Subaru Sumo

In 2011 they also continued on with their sexy sumo wrestler theme and released another advert showing of its Forester which comes “standard with sexy.”

You can watch the ads below.

Sexy Sumo Wrestlers:

Reviewing The Subaru Adverts:
Cinematography: 5/5

Although rather horrifying to watch, the camera work in these adverts is great and really shows off the sexiness of sumo wrestlers. IT shows of the car too, though you can’t help but notice the sumo wrestlers more so than the car. The camera work superbly highlights the comedy theme of these adverts and helps to sell the car. 5/5

Message: 4/5

The messaging in these ads is very good and there is enough focus ont he car itself to make it good product messaging  However the presence of the sumo wrestlers overpowers the car which lets the messaging delivery down just a little. IT is still however a well achieved set of ads with a horrifying yet fascinating comedy aspect. 4/5

Pace: 5/5

The pace of these adverts are great and hold your interest throughout. The camera cuts and soundtrack really help to make them good adverts to watch. 5/5

Sound: 5/5

The choice of soundtracks, couple with the superbly timed camera cuts make these a really good set of adverts to watch and keep your interest in the advert, again albeit a horrified interest. 5/5

Overall: 4.75/5

Disturbing? You bet. But amusing nonetheless. A successful ad from Subaru.

What about you?
What did you think of the ads?  I’d love to see your feedback in the comments below.
